Sorry it has been so long!

I know we have already established how terrible I am at this whole Blogging thing. The honest truth is I have beenImage swamped, we are pushing to get this house finished by the end of this month. If we don’t make that deadline we won’t be able to have our final until June. As you can imagine, that is not what we want. If we make our May deadline, Bubba and I will have been in throws of this project for an entire year. And quite honestly, thirteen months just seems too long. 😉

So to sum up the past few months of progress I have taken a few pictures. We are putting sod in Saturday, and we are just waiting on the outside paint…pretty much done. So close, yet so dang far!

Picture with me for a moment, (Those of you who have been allowed in, please spare me the embarrassment) what it is to live in 900 square feet of strategically stacked boxes. My current abode, is what one would imagine the inside of a maze looking like. Rat trails through cardboard cubes from one important place to another. A trail leads from the bathroom to the bedroom and back out the front door. And the saddest part is… not everything is packed.

If you have ever moved and thought…”How did I collect so much $#!%?! ” Then you know exactly how I am feeling. On top of the fact, that we keep adding new stuff to our collection, so we will have some pretty new things for the new house. And by “we” I mean “me”. Every drawer I open I tell my self I will not be this disorganized in our pretty new nest. But knowing myself, that promise is not likely to be upheld.

I will be making multiple runs to the dump. And possibly having a yard sale…actually, I WILL be having a yard sale. 🙂

Well, enough with the chit chat, here are some pictures I snapped last night.

Oh! I forgot to take pictures of my entry, my carpet, and my beautifully finished bathrooms. This is only half of the kitchen too. Sorry for my lack of pictures, Imageguess you’ll have to wait until it’s all done to see the rest. 🙂

Time flies…

I know! I suck at this whole blogging thing. It is really hard to remember to take pictures, then to have the time to download to your computer, then upload to the internet…I am terrible at rembering that I even took pictures…

I was flipping through the pictures on m camera, that I found tucked in a box of my daughters clothes, and came across some pictures of the house a few stages ago. I realized I had taken them to post on here, and never actually posted them. In fact, I never even took them off the card. 😦 Then I realized it is January and my last post was in October.

Not to make excuses, since the truth is I just suck at this, but after my last post was my daughters first birhday, my dad’s birthday, my husband’s birthday, my great grandma (92) passed away, then was Thanksgiving, followed by a memorial service for my great grandma, then Christmas, New years, and mixed into all of this is working on our new house. So…needless to say, I have finally found a few seconds to show the progress…

Here goes…

DSCN2102

As you can see, we have our first coat of stucco. Two more to go then paint!

DSCN2103

This pictures shows more than meets the eye. Allow me to point it out.

Fact 1: We have a pantry!

Fact 2: We have walls! Dry wall, insulation, taped and textured all since we showed you last.

Fact 3: We have  doors mounted, (although we took them off their frames to paint) trim and baseboards installed, and shelves in all the closets!

Fact 4: See that window to the far left? It has a pretty trim and sill. (As do all the other windows)

Fact 5: Also pictured, but un-see-able, is the fifty million wholes that were spackled, and thirty million feet of caulking (hence the caulking gun on the pantry shelf)

See, this shows more progress than meets the eye. 😉

Hard to believe it’s the same house in all my previous posts. But it is!!!

And lastly, after I took these pictures yesterday, we sprayed the first coat of primer. So we are even farther along than this! Only three more coats (one more primer and two paint) and we are ready for tile!!! Woooo Hoooo!!!

I know! I know! It has been a while…

I am really sorry that it has been a while since my last posting of pictures. And unfortunately it will be a little while longer. I havent taken pictures, because the progress is not obvious. To give you some idea of what I mean, a couple of weekends ago Bubba and I put in what felt like a thousand brackets. From “H1” brackets to “A 35” brackets. If you are not familiar with what those are, I don’t blame you. I had no idea how many went into building a house. The amazing thing is, if you live in California, your house has them too. And odds are, you never even knew they were there because all of them are covered by drywall. Thats right, days worth of work, that no one will even get to see.

There are at least six different types of brackets, and about fifty nails per bracket. ( that was an exageration) there are more like 15 to 20 nails per bracket, and we used a variety through out, but I bet our total number of brackets is somewhere in the hundreds. (And that is no exageration) so if you do the math, 20 nails per bracket and we will say one hundred brackets ( although i know its more) thats about 2000 nails!

So like I saiD, our progress has been substantial, since all these things are required in order for the house to pass framing inspection. But really, there isnt a picture to show you the progress, because it is a little less obvious then something like the roof being finished. Oh! That reminds me! Our roof is finished and our gutters are up! Yay!

Our next few steps are framing inspection, insulation, drywall, and then stucco! In that order. don’t ask why, I don’t understand it fully, but that is the order of operations.

so with all that being said, its been a fun couple of weeks, and even though progress was made, I am ready to start with the fun stuff, like tile and paint. I will snap a few pictures the next time we work, and show you what the house looks like. Until then…have a great day, and thank your contractor for installing all those miscellenious brackets without your help.

Electricity…

It seems to be one of the features we take for granted the most. We tend to realize its convenience when the power is out and lighting the room isn’t just as easy as flipping a switch. Now that I am watching all these wires of different size and color and they are running in twenty different directions, I have realized that this is something I never took time to admire. Thank you to our electrician, to all electricians. Without you, our world would be a very dark place. 😉

Disclaimers!!!

Here is a list of a couple of disclaimers! So sorry!

1.) I am so sorry if you have posted comments and I have not replied. Its very hard to access them on my computer and iPad. I don’t really know why, but I can only post new entries or post replies from one computer and so alot of the time, I can’t write back for a while.

2.) I know when I haven’t psted in awhile because people start asking how the house is coming. Sorry for my inconsistancy. It has been pretty busy around the Pope household, and with our work soon to start, posts will probably be fewer and further between.

3.) I will be posting a ton of new posts within the next few day to update everyone on the progress, so sorry for the crazy posting bonanza!  Hope everyone enjoys!

Windows and Water

Hey everybody! I wanted to post a few new pictures of the progress and share a few thoughts with you.

One thing I have learned in this process is that it’s the little stuff you never think about that takes quite a bit of time to “install”. Things like, the little boxes that hold all of your electrical sockets. Did everyone know, those are mapped out? I kind of wondered what makes them put them on random walls. Have you ever looked at your plug-ins and wondered why there is one on darn near every wall! Well, needless to say, these take time, and some poor guy has the boring job of putting them all where they are supposed to go.

My final odd thought of the day is: Why do they put the special sticky paper on only the bottom of a window when they install it? Why not all the way around? (You will see in the pictures what paper I am referring to) I trust they know what they’re doing…I was just wondering. 😉

On another note, we have a door bell! 🙂

It’s the simple things in life that make your day.

Hope everyone has a great day! Here ya go…

Holy Sheeting!

Holy cow has it been a busy week! We had our first construction meeting and got to meet most of the families that will be building with us! As of this past week we have the first stages of our roof going into place. We have also decided on our roofing color, (which I have a little sample of, but it will have to wait for a later date) and that is what is next to be completed. And by “next”, I mean, hopefully Monday or Tuesday. We had our first official work day at our house and we got to meet a bunch of our neighbors this morning! Here are the latest pictures of the process. And keep in mind that the rather large pile of dirt that is currently infront of the garage will not be there. 😉 They are currently in the process of getting all our plumbing and gas lines hooked up. And when you dig a trench, the dirt has to go somewhere. 😉
